In 2023, there are shifts in the policies for household registration in Guangzhou. Some talent categories have seen loosening of age restrictions, and the entry requirements have been revised for several groups. For instance, the entry requirements have been made more lenient for candidates with technical titles; they can now apply until 5 years above the previous maximum age limit. Besides, entry restrictions for fresh graduates have also been simplified, and successful candidates can come with or without employment opportunities at entry. The entry process has also been modified to ensure more straightforward administration.

The government has, over time, reduced entry qualifications by increment, with the most recent change occurring in July when one-month social security contributions became enough for applicants seeking admission according to their educational qualifications, irrespective of experience. Also, those who hold proficiency certificates in different trades can enter, provided their employment is in line with the relevant career categories outlined in Guangzhou city's technical personnel talent catalogue. To apply, they require proof of regular social security payments for a period of six months or more.

Meanwhile, Guangzhou's integral entrance criteria cover six fundamental qualifying factors, including the candidate's social security contribution history, out of which he/she must have remitted for four years, the length of stay in Guangzhou, age limit capped at 45 years, absence of criminal records, holding a Guangdong province residential permit, and finally, a minimum value of 100 integral points on the Guangzhou Integral Admission criteria. The last mentioned factor has recently increased to 150 integral points.

These policies have not only relaxed entry conditions but also simplified the entry application procedure, while rewarding merit and experience through admission merit points. Nonetheless, the revised entry criteria demand that candidates fulfill all listed qualifications before they can proceed with their application.
